Kaching Cart Drawer vs Essential Cart Drawer: which slide cart fits your Shopify store?
Short answer
Essential Cart Drawer is the better pick for most small and growing stores: it has a real free plan (up to 30 orders a month), every paid tier is $1 cheaper than Kaching ($8.99 vs $9.99 for 99 orders), and it includes a sticky add to cart bar and order notes. Kaching Cart Drawer is the stronger choice if you already run Kaching Bundles or Releasit COD, want A/B testing and a terms checkbox, or prefer the larger review base (5.0 from 1,497 reviews vs 1,087).

The full comparison
Two young cart drawers that grew fast
Kaching Cart Drawer and Essential Cart Drawer are slide cart apps launched within three months of each other, and both already sit at a perfect 5.0 on the Shopify App Store. Kaching Cart Drawer (listed as "Kaching CartDrawer Cart Upsell") went live on December 9, 2024. It comes from Kaching Bundles & Upsells, the team behind the Kaching Bundles quantity-break app, and has collected 1,497 reviews. Essential Cart Drawer (listed as "Essent Cart Drawer Cart Upsell") launched on March 7, 2025, from Essential Apps, the developer of Essential Free Shipping Bar and Essential Upsell. It shows 1,087 reviews.
Both carry the Built for Shopify badge, both are based in the United States, and both price by monthly orders rather than by revenue. That makes them unusually close rivals. The differences sit in the details: what each plan includes, what the drawer can show beyond the basics, and which other apps each one is designed to live next to.
If you are new to the format, our guide on what a cart drawer is and the cart page vs cart drawer breakdown cover the basics. This page assumes you already want a slide cart and are choosing between these two.
Pricing: same structure, one real difference
Both apps bill in US dollars every 30 days and tie the plan to how many orders your store processes per month.
Monthly orders | Kaching Cart Drawer | Essential Cart Drawer |
|---|---|---|
Free | Development stores only | Up to 30 orders/mo |
Up to 99 | $9.99/mo | $8.99/mo |
Up to 199 | $14.99/mo | $13.99/mo |
Up to 499 | $24.99/mo | $23.99/mo |
Above 499 | Not shown on the listing | 5 more plans to 10,000+ (prices not shown) |
Trial | 14 days | 14 days |
Two things stand out. First, Essential Cart Drawer is exactly one dollar cheaper on every tier shown. Over a year on the 499-order tier, that adds up to $12. Not a reason to choose on its own.
Second, and more important: Essential Cart Drawer has a free plan for live stores, capped at 30 orders a month, with every feature included. Kaching's free plan only applies to development stores, so a live store pays from the end of the 14-day trial. For a shop doing 10 or 20 orders a month, that is the difference between $0 and roughly $120 a year.
Essential states on every plan "Every feature included, no gating" and "No per-order or overage fees". Kaching's paid tiers also list the same feature set on each card. So neither app holds features back for a higher plan: you only pay for order volume.
Above 499 orders, neither listing gives exact prices. A third-party review on Digismoothie lists Kaching tiers from $39.99 (500 to 999 orders) up to $199.99 (10,000+ orders). If you are at that volume, check each app's billing screen before committing.
What the drawer shows
Shared ground
On the core job, the two apps overlap almost completely. Both offer:
- a slide-out cart with style controls plus custom HTML and CSS
- a progress bar toward free shipping
- tiered rewards that unlock free gifts as the cart grows
- a countdown timer
- a discount code field
- payment icons near the checkout button
- in-cart product recommendations, including AI-based ones
- add-ons such as shipping protection and gift wrap
If your plan is "free shipping bar, one upsell and a timer", both apps cover it.
Where Kaching goes further
Kaching's listing tags a terms checkbox, useful when buyers must accept conditions before checkout: pre-orders, personalised products, or anything with specific return rules. Essential's listing does not mention one.
Kaching also lists trust badges as a feature of their own next to payment icons, and an A/B testing tag in its analytics section. Essential's analytics cover click-through and conversion rates, but A/B testing is not listed on its App Store page.
The Kaching admin is available in seven languages: English, German, Italian, French, Dutch, Swedish and Spanish. Essential lists English only for the app interface. In both apps the storefront cart itself can be translated.
Where Essential goes further
Essential includes a sticky add to cart bar with product image, variant picker and quantity. That is a second conversion tool inside the same subscription. Kaching's listing carries a "Sticky cart" tag, but no sticky add to cart bar is described, so treat it as not included unless you confirm it inside the app.
Essential also offers an order notes field, documented in its help center next to the discount and payment icon settings. Order notes are not listed on Kaching's page. If your customers write gift messages or delivery instructions, that matters (see our guide to cart notes).
Its listing further tags warranties as an offer type, quantity breaks, volume discounts and tiered discounts, and multi-currency with Shopify Markets support.
Setup and design control
Kaching describes its setup as no-code with lots of customization options, and tags custom styles, custom rules, custom HTML and custom CSS. Essential tags a drag-and-drop editor. Its help center splits settings into clear tabs: position (left or right), open on add to cart, header, empty cart message and button, line items, announcement bar, spend tiers, subtotal, checkout button, discounts, payment icons, order note, upsells and placement, with design settings set separately for desktop and mobile.
Both can be configured without touching theme code. Essential's public documentation is more explicit about what each setting does, which helps if you set things up alone. For general design advice that applies to either app, see how to customize a cart drawer without code.
Ecosystem: the quiet deciding factor
The "works with" lists tell you who each app was built for.
Kaching Cart Drawer lists Kaching Bundles Quantity Breaks, Kaching Discount Pop-up Upsell, Kaching Subscriptions App, Releasit COD Form & Upsells, GemPages and PageFly. If you already run Kaching Bundles for quantity offers, adding their drawer keeps offers, styling logic and support in one family. The Releasit link is a real plus for cash-on-delivery stores.
Essential Cart Drawer lists Bundles, Essential Upsell, GemPages, Markets, PageFly and upsell apps in general. Its natural partners are the rest of the Essential Apps catalog, and the explicit Markets support points at stores selling in several currencies.
Track record and reviews
Kaching has more reviews (1,497 vs 1,087) and about three more months on the market. Both average 5.0 and both are recent, so neither has years of history behind it. The Digismoothie review of Kaching notes that some lower-rated reviews mention confusion about the free plan or the trial and settings that are hard to find. That fits the listing, where "free" only applies to development stores. With this many five-star ratings, the few critical reviews of each app carry the most information: read the latest ones before installing.
Three store profiles
A new store doing 20 orders a month
Pick Essential Cart Drawer. The free plan covers up to 30 orders with every feature, so you get a drawer, a free shipping bar, an upsell and a sticky add to cart bar for $0. Kaching would cost $9.99 a month after the trial for the same volume. Once you pass 30 orders, the $8.99 plan is still the cheaper of the two. For more ideas at this stage, see our list of apps for new stores.
A supplement brand already on Kaching Bundles
Pick Kaching Cart Drawer. Your quantity offers already live in Kaching Bundles, the two apps are listed as working together, and the seven-language admin helps if part of your team does not work in English. The extra dollar a month is irrelevant next to keeping one vendor, and the A/B testing tag suits a brand that tests its offers.
A fashion store shipping to several countries at 400 orders a month
Both fit this volume ($24.99 vs $23.99). Essential's explicit multi-currency and Markets support, plus warranties and order notes, give it the edge for an international catalog. Choose Kaching here only if you need the terms checkbox or run Releasit COD in some markets.
Switching from one to the other
Moving between these two is low risk, because both replace the theme cart the same way and keep their settings inside the app rather than in your products.
- Install the new app and use its 14-day trial (or Essential's free plan) while you rebuild.
- Recreate your free shipping threshold and reward tiers first. Write down the exact amounts per currency before you start.
- Rebuild your upsell rules. If you rely on AI recommendations, check that Shopify Search & Discovery is set up.
- Recreate add-ons like shipping protection. According to Digismoothie, Kaching's shipping protection toggle uses an app-created product: archive it after uninstalling Kaching so it does not show in your catalog.
- Turn off the old app's embed in the theme editor before turning on the new one. Two drawers competing for the same click is the most common cause of a broken cart.
- Test on mobile: add to cart, apply a code, cross the free shipping threshold, remove an item, reach checkout.
Then uninstall the old app so its billing stops.
A third option
If you also pay for separate bundle, upsell and sticky add to cart apps, an all-in-one can change the math. ConvertX includes a cart drawer (free shipping bar, timer, recommendations, shipping protection, discount code, payment icons) alongside bundles, upsells, sticky add to cart, payment icons and shoppable stories. It costs $19.99 a month on the Essential plan (4 active modules, up to $1,000 of additional revenue per month) or $34.99 a month on Premium with no limits, with a 7-day trial and no free plan.
The trade-offs are real: ConvertX launched in September 2025, has only a handful of reviews and no Built for Shopify badge. If you only need a cart drawer, Kaching or Essential is cheaper. ConvertX makes sense when it would replace three or four paid apps at once. Frequently asked questions
Neither is better for every store. Essential Cart Drawer is cheaper ($1 less on every listed tier), has a free plan for up to 30 orders a month and includes a sticky add to cart bar. Essential Cart Drawer includes a sticky add to cart bar with product image, variant picker and quantity. Kaching's App Store page only carries a sticky cart tag and does not describe a sticky add to cart bar, so confirm inside the app if you need one.
Yes. Kaching Bundles Quantity Breaks is listed in the apps Kaching Cart Drawer works with, along with Kaching Subscriptions, Kaching Discount Pop-up Upsell, Releasit COD Form, GemPages and PageFly.
ConvertX bundles a cart drawer with bundles, upsells, sticky add to cart, payment icons and stories, from $19.99 a month (Essential plan, 4 active modules, up to $1,000 of additional revenue per month) with a 7-day trial. How we compare
We make ConvertX, so we have a side. We still try to be fair: every price and feature here comes from the apps’ own listings and docs (see sources), we say where another app is the better pick, and we update pages when apps change.
